Juli Clay, Assistant Professor of Mass Communication at Brenau University, appeared as my guest on “The Communication Corner,” the weekly hour-long interview program I host for WBCX, 89.1 FM, “The Voice of Brenau.”
In addition to her extensive academic study of the media, Juli Clay worked in several professional positions–such as media and event planner–prior to becoming a faculty member, which gave her frequent, first-hand experience with newspaper, radio, and TV journalists. This double vantage point gave her on-air comments extra credibility.
During “The Communication Corner” hour, we discussed:
*Why every organization needs a crisis communication plan
*How to format that plan
*Cultivating media relations during ordinary times
*Writing letters to the editor
*Becoming a bylined columnist
*The drift away from solid news to widespread entertainment in radio and TV
*How Paul Harvey blended news and entertainment perfectly
*Radio as “theater of the mind”
