Kristina Rhoades Doesn’t Let Wheelchair Confine Her

Kristina Rhoades has mastered the microphone--and life

Kristina Rhoades has been in a wheelchair for more than two decades, since an accident during infancy. Yet no one who knows her would call her confined. Just consider her motto: “Happiness is yours to choose or reject–so embrace it. Sing out loud, give somebody a hug, smile for me, and don’t forget to dance to the music.”

Interviewing her for “The Communication Corner” on WBCX, 89.1 FM,”The Voice of Brenau,” inspired me greatly. Hearing her comments will inspire you as well. Among the interview highlights:
*How her family sustained and encouraged her
*Her explanation that “I was chosen to sit in this wheelchair and educate and inspire everyone I meet.”
*Her reign as Miss Wheelchair California, including her charitable and political activities
*20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act
*Weird comments from strangers
*Her love of the outdoors and athletic activities
*How relatives encouraged her to pursue a radio career

You’ll laugh, sigh, and possibly cry. You’ll gain a whole new slant about your own life. Listen to the entire hour, and come away invigorated, without a thought of pity. Kristina wouldn’t tolerate that reaction.

The Communication Corner’s First Broadcast

Possibly you have read my announcements about “The Communication Corner”–the interview program I’m hosting on WBCX, “The Voice of Brenau,” 89.1 FM. The program airs live at 9:00 a.m. every Tuesday, and appears again as a rebroadcast at 6:00 a.m. on Thursdays.

Pictured with me: Kristina Rhoades, WBCX Station Manager and my Program Producer. Having worked with numerous station managers across the years, I rank her in the top-tier of those who give their broadcasters first class support and suggestions.

As a motivational speaker, I applaud her personal motto: “Happiness is yours to choose or reject–so embrace it. Sing out loud, give somebody a hug, smile for me, and don’t forget to dance with the music.”

No wonder Kristina earned the title, “Miss Wheelchair California 2005.” Her vibrant spirit jet-propels everyone she meets and works with.
