When WBCX, 89.1 FM–“The Voice of Brenau”–invited me to launch my radio interview show, “The Communication Corner,” I knew that getting off to a good start was a must. That meant that I needed to select a guest whose career had centered around communication at the highest levels. Equally as important, I needed a guest who would be comfortable with a microphone, and would keep my first listeners tuned in for the entire hour. So I scheduled Mike Banks, Owner of Mike Banks Consulting in Gainesville, Georgia.
I’ll always remember the first time I met Mike. The year was 1980. As professional fund raisers, we were attending the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) conference at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, a hotel which at that time towered over the Atlanta skyline, and displayed a unique atrium with a glass elevator (a scene quite common in today’s luxury hotels). Mike had the privilege of introducing the conference’s keynote speaker, Amanda Blake, the hugely popular “Miss Kitty” on the long running TV western “Gunsmoke.”
Years later, our paths crossed again when I moved to Gainesville.By then Mike had shifted from fund raising to banking, and had taken leadership posts in the city’s leading financial institutions and civic organizations.
Oh–and before all this, he was a radio broadcaster, starting with his student days at the University of Georgia and continuing with Gainesville’s WDUN.
Clearly, Mike Banks brought great credentials to the first broadcast of “The Communication Corner.” Beyond that, he provided helpful information in a compelling manner. To hear our 60-minute interview, click on the arrow below and have your speakers turned on.
You’ll benefit tremendously from Mike Banks’ outstanding communication career, and from his willingness to share the tips that made him a leader in every professional and civic activity he devoted himself to.
