Kim Kyst: A Weekend Job Can Be Fun!

kimwithrailroad

Many of us count days until Friday ends, and make sure we have no work scheduled for the weekend. We want to relax completely. However, energy-packed Kim Kyst takes a different approach. In her own words:

“My weekend job is as a car host on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad in Blue Ridge, GA. Over the years I have had a passion for tourism and watching families enjoy spending time together.”

Where do she and the touring passengers go? “The train travels from Blue Ridge to McCaysville, GA/Copperhill, TN. Along the way riders can enjoy the scenery and history of the area. Special trips include Easter Egg Hunts, 4th of July fireworks, Pumpkin Pickin’, and Santa trains. It’s a great way to relax and recharge.”

MY “MOONLIGHTING” EXPERIENCE

I understand Kim’s viewpoint. For two years, I “moonlighted” on weekends as a radio DJ, a fun experience I had wanted for a long time. KNEX–a small station in McPherson, KS–hired me for 12-hour shifts, operating both the AM and FM broadcasts. Rather than use my own name, I became “Ed Watson,” using my middle name and my wife’s maiden name. I still cherish great memories of “spinning records,” broadcasting the news, recording advertisements, and everything else that went with being a DJ.
