Football Analysts Need New Lingo

daytimegame

As football season approaches, we will soon read and hear about new stadiums, schedules, rules, coaches, uniforms, Heisman trophy candidates, and more. I suggest something else new: new lingo for the announcers and broadcasters.

Specifically, I would enjoy hearing a play-by-play report that doesn’t include these tired phrases, which are long overdue for linguistic funerals:

“electrified the crowd”

“whale of a ball game”

“a whole new ball game”

“Chamber of Commerce day”

“will beat you with his legs”

“great downhill runner”

“throws underneath”

“cut out the lights, the party’s over”

“smash mouth football”

“quarterback must find his rhythm”

“field goal no longer than a chip shot”

“third down and a mile”

“Hail Mary pass”

“not over till it’s over”

“real nail biter”

“return to the glory days”

“last nail in the coffin”

“game of the decade”

“step up and make a play”

“took the crowd out of the game”

“left nothing on the field”

“got his game face on”

“surreal atmosphere”

“real barn burner”

When football analysts start using fresher phrases, I’ll quit wearing out my TV mute button

Mike Sammond–Business RadioX Leader

mikeatevent

When I met Mike Sammond at the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce more than two years ago, I had no idea that he had achieved so much in journalism. Partial list:

Journalism degree, University of Georgia
Sports TV reporter, Columbus, Georgia
CBS Radio
Olympic Broadcasting Service
CNN Headline News

Nor could I have guessed what he was going to achieve during a highly energetic and productive next few months. Mike became the talk show host and producer of Business RadioX. Here’s what that’s all about:

Business RadioX has quickly become the fastest growing B2B online radio network in the nation. With a “pro-business” format, Business RadioX provides local businesses the opportunity to share their work with thousands of potential customers, investors and decision-makers.

Most graciously and expertly, Mike has welcomed me as a guest on his show several times, and has referred me to hosts of other local Business RadioX shows he produces. So I have enjoyed a close up view of Mike and his colleagues in this rapidly growing media service.

THANKING OWNERS, SPONSORS, HOSTS AND GUESTS
Last night Mike hosted his Business RadioX team for dinner and a brief awards program. During his presentation (pictured above), he told us about upcoming expansions of the service. Clearly, Mike has been a vital part of this unique radio network’s launching and development.
