I lived in KoKoMo, Ms. in the 40's and early 50's and as a boy, used to go to the kokomo baseball field which was east of the old school building, and watch the Day boys, Billy, Eagle, Jimmy, and Joe play some terrific
baseball. Those are some of the fondest I have of KoKoMo. Thanks for sharing this inspiring story about such a great man, and I know he is missed by all who knew him. Kindest regards, Joe Marie

I really appreciate Dr. Conerly's wisdom in this video Bill! To me, it is powerful to hear the insights from him because of his tremendous experience and knowledge. His outlook on having a wonderful life is a blessing! The quote "say it simply, say it directly, and say it with feeling really hit home too.

Kudos to Dr. Conerly for providing such tremendous service through hospice and giving so much to others. Having had experience with hospice last year with my mom, I know what a difference he makes.

Once again Bill, great video and great choice for guest! Thank you!

I knew that Alex would make it to the top! After all, I taught him the "Art of the Deal" when he was eight and I was ten. I would trade my sister's Pinky Lee comic for Alex's Batman--and make him think he was getting a great deal! Being older and bigger had it's advantages.

Frances Brown, I can't find enough great words to describe this wonderful lady. I met Frances @ the Dept Of Labor about 3 years ago. I was sitting, waiting to see someone. Frances was sitting behind the front desk working hard, talking & smiling at everyone that went up to her. Some of the people were very rude an nasty. I notice no matter how rude they were to her, she kept a big smile on her face. She had a wonderful attitude. I went up to her an told her I had been watching her & couldn't believe how nice she was even if someone was rude & nasty to her. She told me that she just have to put her faith first & just say that could be her on the other side of that desk. I told her she has a very wonderful, kind personality. She was so helpful an nice. I will never forget how she was so wonderful to everyone that walk in that door. We have kept in touch every since that day.

It was indeed fortunate that an unknown cousin researching Spec Wilson inquired at the Laurel Country Club about my Dad. He was put in touch with me, and we began corresponding. Today he sent your Blog about my Dad, and I wish to let you know how much my sister and I appreciate your kind comments.
Golf in the old style still excites me. Hit practice balls? What? Have a physical workout to stretch those tied muscles? Forget it! The game of match play was more about people in stead of score. Spec would screech up in the '47 Willy's Jeep rush to the tee to meet his golf buddies after the winter layoff, Hit it, go find it, hit it again. It' the greatest of all games and indeed the old style was about a GAME, a life style game, but still a game.
Spec was indeed a character, as his scrapbook proves. Even though it's becoming more rare, since he died suddenly way back in 1967, rarely do I travel for golf in Mississippi that some elder member of the Club where I am to play does not come up asking if I am kin to Spec. Once established, a new story gets told to a son who never tires of the tales.
One great example, not so many years ago, came from a great old gentlemen, Col. Burt White at the Colonial Country Club while playing at their venerable Invitational. He walked up and asked if I was kin. As we chatted, he pulls a small box from his pocket inside of which was an 8mm Kodachrome movie of the finals of that Invitational around 1962. Spec lost that match, but later watching the film I remembered so well that OLD STYLE dip in the swing that imparted all kinds of different spins depending of the wrist flick, I could literally smell Spec. That packed Camel cigarette smell is forever tied to the memory of the man.
You mention Eddie Merrins, a true star and fantastic gentleman from Northwood Country Club, Meridian, Mississippi. I had the great fortune to have dinner with Mr. Merrins the night before he was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. He told me his side, a very humble one, of his crowd roaring pitch into the hole on the 18th green to determine his win in the finals of the State Amateur that year. Over the years, I have been told over and over by "hundreds of thousands" of people who swore they were in the crowd that day to watch Spec go down to Merrin's magic.
The people like Spec, Merrins, Johnny Pott, Bob Travis, Hunter George Weddington really glitter up the story of golf in Mississippi.
I am sorry I rambled on, please forgive. Still, Thanks to you for prompting me with your side of the story and my long lost cousin Bill Wilson for connecting me to your Blog.

I agree almost down the line with Dr. Murphy. My one exception is that the rules should not be any stricter for the student athlete than the average student. If they are drug tested, then so should all students. If not that, then only all athletes and students on scholarship. I will concede that they are being given a 'free ride' to school, but is it truely free? The schedules these athletes maintain are incredible and I am not just talking about class schedules. Between the 'unofficial' meetings, weight training, shell drills, film watching and all of the rest they have little to no time for themselves. Given this schedule, they often do not have any time to work a job to have a some spending money. I remember a story on Boss Bailey and he would leave the house at 7 a.m. and return at 9 p.m.

I am not trying to excuse their behavior but present the other side having been there before. Most of these kids come from modest to poor means and you put them in an environment that most of the student body at UGA come from families that can not only afford the yearly tuition but also give them weekly spending allowances. I think it promotes a system where the players are encouraged to take the handouts that are given under the table. If people actually think that the behavior that was exhibited at Texas during the 70's and immortalized in "Blood on the Hoof" was stopped by the NCAA you are sadly mistaken. It was pushed further underground.

As for the NCAA, they have no incentive to put the brakes on this Cash Cow they have created. If you have any doubts just look at the BCS playoffs. Soon to be replaced by the "and one" system. These kids, thanks to the NCAA, are now almost playing what amounts to an NFL schedule. Come on! In 1977 I attended a football camp at UGA and the '76 team brought in 17 million in revenue. An that was in a stadium that had 2 sides. Since then we have added and upper deck, closed in the tracks, and added seats on both sides to seat 95K people. Oh, and don't forget the Sky Boxes.

The school says they don't like it, but do they really? As the players would say, it is all about the benjamins. I do agree with Mark but I think the issues at hand are a little more complicated than were discussed in his article.

I think that is why I like Coach Richt as much as I do. I don't think he will last, but I do think he is a moral man and tries to do the right thing by the kids that he recruits. I am not saying he is a saint because I think the moral dilema he finds himself in as Coach has been eating at him for years.

Bill: I also enjoyed the article. I caddied MANY! times for G'villes Spec What a character and yes he certainly could play. There are truly enough stories about Spec that could make a book, however a lot of it people would think was Fiction but in fact was True. Thanks for forwarding to me. JEB

Bill: Thanks for sending this direct; FB is way too busy for me. Your Spec sounds somewhat like a golfer of about the same time here in Gville: Spec Towson. I'm sure they were of different personalities since our Spec was a very good golfer, but to put it mildly, was somewhat eccentric: you may have know him. But I agree, a long time ago, business men and women, not college kids were the real Amateurs.

Inspiration personified!

This is by far one of the best speeches I've had the pleasure to read. Of course, as a storyteller I particularly love that he used the wonderful parable about the bird and also encouraged the class to "Learn History-your personal/family history as well as that of the world. Learn the stories of your family-they are a part of you..."

I would dearly love to share this speech with my readers Bill, with permission of course. There is so much wisdom in Adam's words, they need to be read again and again.

What a terrific story. Thanks for sharing a "behind the scenes" look at this inspiring and amazing woman.

I had the good pleasure to meet Linda Sztanko several years ago at the Extreme Business Makeover conference in Orlando. Although I was a total stranger, Linda reached out to me and provided great help when I was really in need.

I am now a customer of Linda's in her Send Out Cards business. I really enjoy the service and the extra dose of support she provides.

I am thrilled that you and she have connected - two wonderful people who live to help others. I look forward to seeing that friendship grow and I am thrilled to have been responsible for it.

Great Music Bill. What an amazing young woman... It blows my mind how people think they have the "right" to come right out and ask about someones health issues (unless you are a child....I get THAT!) I get it if you are becoming a friend and curosity with naturally come into play...but to go up to a complete stranger and ask...nope! just dont get it... She is very generous with her forthcoming. Its a good thing she has a great sense of self and humor. "HOW do you go to the bathroom?" Really? LOL

Love the musician story!

Yes she is a great role model .... ITs true, I have a cousin who was seriously disfigured while investigating a car accident (she is a police officer and she and the women who involved in the accident were struck by a drunk driver speeding by as they were crossing the street). She says it used to really bother her that children would stare at her face when she goes out in public... she now embraces that and realizes that God has put her in a great position to TEACH children to look past things that dont "fit" the norm and accept people for who they are...

What a Great interview... What an accomplished young woman...(what a great support group she has) I hope I get the honor to meet YOU BOTH in Person one day!

I would have to disagree with judging a social media consultant by the number of Twitter followers they get. Anyone can get 10,000′s of Twitter followers by doing it the wrong way which follows the whole Twitter Karma mentality. This just creates more shouting and no listening. Any good social media embracer will tell you that every tool must be used for a purpose (i.e. feedback, mitigating risk, taking a pulse on a community, etc.). It is the quality of followers and the level of engagement they have that determines the success. Lastly, a good social media consultant is one that understands how and when to apply the right tools that are parallel to the purpose of their mission online.

Gina, you are such a top pro that a compliment from you is feedback I treasure. Thanks for the kudos. The station tells me that every five weeks I can interview someone not in this community, so I'm going to send you potential interview dates and see what will match your calendar. Of course I remember so well how our video interview went. I have re-posted that several times, as you may know. As you can imagine, I felt so privileged to interview Terry, my longtime mentor and model. Once more. . .I welcome your positive response.

That was my initial thought, too, John--a very natural one--when my wife Sandra and I started producing videos together a couple of years ago. However, video expert Terry Brock and several other highly professional viewers told us it looked like we were having a private conversation and not relating to the viewing audience. Under their advice, we changed and started facing the camera most of the time. Sarina and I followed the same advice.

I really appreciated this pod cast. I am not huge in technology but this gave me a much better understanding of the social medias of which I use facebook and mostly skype. I was pleased to hear there was a video group skype because under the old skype adding the 3 person killed the whole communication. Bill I did learn that you and I might not be able to be friends. I graduated from Belhaven, '68. But maybe Grace will cover that. I am relatively new to following you and just figured out how to get to these older pod casts. I work for a mission board recruiting and also help candidates put talks together for itineration. That is what attracted me to you in the first place. Thanks for providing this service.
Hi William...really enjoyed the many sections of this newsletter especially the pictures! Naturally I agree with your advice on "keeping it fresh!", as if you are performing your tour de force for the first time to an appreciative audience. I gently suggested to my preacher about bringing alive the many repetitive words used for preparing the congregation, the Lord's Prayer, quotations from the Bible, baptisms, funerals in that the words fall flat when the delivery is flat from familiarity. Every service, every baptism, every funeral, every quotation if fact every aspect of every "performance" in church, on the community stage or Broadway stage should be delivered with the same enthusiasm, comfort, thought, humor, meaning, sincerity, energy as if it's the first or even last "moment upon the stage!"! Great performances come from great performers whether it's opening night or the 2000th performance!Life is not a rehearsal, IT'S SHOWBIZ!!!!!!!!!!! ANOTHER OPENING ANOTHER SHOW...DAILY! AVOID "THE HOOK"! Dr. Bill...so delighted at your success and the success you're bringing to others. Man, that's gotta be a super feeling. I bet you and Lee are some "hustlers" on the course! Keep it in the short grass. Actually, my short game is terrific...unfortunately, it's off the tee...I know, old joke. And this one, you know your game is in trouble when you can hear the ball land after you've teed off. Enough from this side...stay well and joyful, dear one. Joe

Susan you are a wonderful representative for Search Angels everywhere. Thank you so much for sharing your stories & making people aware we are out here to help them find & reunite those that have been separated by adoption like myself. No matter what our story is, we all have the right to know where we came from & who we are. We all deserve our original birth certificates.

No matter what our story is, we all have the right to know where we came from & who we are. We all deserve our original birth certificates.

Thank you for a great show, Susan! Especially for highlighting the wrongful sealing of original birth certificates from adopted people, therefore precluding them from knowing their heritage, family history, health issues, and to know who their blood relatives are. As you mentioned, there are only five states which have restored this right (KS never being "closed"). So, as much as we love to hear about the reunions, the overriding issue is restoring to disenfranchised people the same right to access their personal birth information as is available to every other citizen.

Hey babe...you sure know how to push my buttons!!!!!!!!!!! She said after viewing the CD or mp3! Hi William...much better background and solid message. Especially needed in these days that can tend to be on the dark side. Yep, there can be a brighter day tomorrow...even today by being "up"! Enjoyed the Christmas photo and message...looking good I must say...and happy...happy to say! I'm fine, but unfortunately my Peggy is going through some health issues she's had to deal with for over a year. Doctors have not been able to bring much comfort. Please keep her in your prayers...like chicken soup...it can't hurt and can do wonders. Always good to "hear" from you. Warmest greetings to the Lampton Legion! Joseph

Yes, his mother's advice was right on target. Ever since, he has stuck with a task until he accomplished it.

Nice that you enjoyed this way of visiting with him.

Brent is my nephew and I so enjoyed listening to this interview. I live in El Paso, TX and it was like having a good visit with him. He is a just as charming and considrate in his personal life as he sounded on your program. I'm glad he took his parents' advice. I can just picture his mother (my sister) telling him not to come home until he had a job.
